Investing in the Canary Islands Real estate information

Single-family houses and plots, the trend following the virus

Teleworking and confinement in homes without terraces or outdoor spaces are driving the search for larger houses away from urban centers or in rural areas. Everyone wants to gain square footage and quality of life.

The idea of intermittent confinement and, above all, the implementation of telework, which has come to stay in many companies, have given a push to residential relocation. Searches for rustic farms from January to April have increased by 46% on real estate portals; chalets by 36% and townhouses by 24%. In addition, prices for products outside of tourist areas tend to be between 15% and 20% lower.

This is the case for now, because it is more than foreseeable that the price of these products from the outskirts will soon rise.

During the lockdown, demand for houses in villages and hamlets with Internet access has increased, because in addition to space and garden, good communication is what matters most to this type of customer. Most municipalities have it, and for isolated houses in the countryside, there are companies that provide satellite connection.

Another profile of customers are investors who will continue buying in tourist areas, waiting for prices to drop to invest long-term.
